ST GEORGE BEER
MY 100th BEER WITH A VIEW
From the St George Brewery (Ethiopia’s oldest) at Limalimo Lodge in Northern Ethiopia. The lodge is on the edge of the Simien Mountain plateau escarpment that has sheer drops of around 1000m. St George is the patron saint of Ethiopia.
DASHEN BREWERY DASHEN LAGER
From our overnight campsite at Gich (3600m) in the Simien Mountains in Northern Ethiopia. In the distance is tomorrow’s lunchtime destination, the flat summit of Inatiye at over 3900m.
The Simien Mountains is home to some rare wildlife and we are hoping to catch a glimpse of the endangered Walia Ibex. The mountains are also the home to the endemic Gelada Baboon
HARAR BREWERY WALIA LAGER
An Ethiopian Walia beer at our lodge in the Harenna Forest after climbing Mount Gusharelle (around 2800m) in the Bale Mountains in Southern Ethiopia.
The Bale Mountains rise up to the Sanetti Plateau at over 4000m and holds the largest population of the world’s rarest canid, the Ethiopian Wolf.
CALEDONIAN BREWING Co. COAST TO COAST
A beautiful morning to walk to the top of Philip Law and get a great view of the hills that form the Border ridge
BARNEY’S BEER VOLCANO IPA
A perfect still, crisp Autumn day walking along the Klontalersee in Glarus, Switzerland with views up to Gassenstock (2541m) through the golden leaved trees.
BANKS’S AMBER BITTER
A glorious evening walk to the top of Bonchester Hill (323m) above Bonchester Bridge in the Scottish Borders. It is the site of an ancient hill fort and looks across the Rule Water valley to Rubers Law (424m) also the site of a hill fort.
FOROYA BJOR LJOST PILSNAR
On the sea cliffs next to Lake Vatnio (also known as Leitisvatn and Sorvagsvatn) on the island of Vagar in the Faroe Islands. A remarkable lake that empties out directly into the sea via a waterfall. Buying a local beer to take this picture was the hardest task that I have had to date, as there is a strict alcohol licensing system in the Faroe Islands with only 6 licensed outlets in the islands, with limited opening hours. However, you can buy light beers in several places and this brew is a mere 2.7%
